Why Does My Tummy Hurt – A Guide To Raising Healthy Kids From the Inside Out

Screen Shot 2025 06 16 At 7.58.09 PM

Welcome, Parents, Caregivers, and Educators!

We’re delighted to introduce you to our engaging and informative course designed to help you guide your children toward better overall health and well-being.

Developed by an experienced healthcare professional, this program takes your child on an exciting journey inside their body – exploring how the digestive system works and how food choices, stress, and daily habits influence not only digestion but also energy, mood, immunity, and long-term health.

Our goal is to empower children with knowledge about their bodies and to inspire habits that support lifelong health. With interactive lessons, colorful illustrations, and fun hands-on activities, learning about how the digestive system affects health becomes both meaningful and memorable.

  • Children will learn to identify each Happy Tummy Team character by name, appearance, and associated physical symptoms.

  • Each character will later be linked to specific causes, symptoms, and solutions in upcoming modules.

  • Children will gain a simple but anatomically accurate understanding of the digestive system.

  • They will learn the names and roles of enzymes, secretions, and beneficial bacteria that support digestion, nutrient absorption, and immunity.

  • They will learn about harmful microbes and substances, and why these should be avoided.

  • They will understand the three main food groups, how food is processed, and how diet affects their health.

  • They will learn that poor food choices can damage the digestive system and lead to pain or illness.

  • They will learn that stress can harm the digestive system and cause pain or illness.

  • They will learn that antibiotics—whether prescribed or present in foods—can harm the digestive system and lead to symptoms or illness.

  • They will learn that exposure to harmful “Bad Guys” can damage the digestive system and cause pain or illness.

  • They will understand that the body has protective “warrior” cells that fight these Bad Guys, and that food choices affect their strength.

  • They will learn how leaky gut develops and why it causes tummy pain.

  • They will learn about essential nutrients and the foods that provide them.

  • They will understand how food choices influence physical, mental, and emotional health, and they will learn how to choose healthier options.

  • They will learn simple stress-relief exercises to protect their health. They will be introduced to a child-friendly Gut Microbiome Test that helps functional medicine doctors identify beneficial and harmful microbes and assess health risks.

  • They will be reminded that every child is different and that medical guidance is important when addressing health concerns.

View Module 1 – Meet The Happy Tummy Team
Meet the members of the “Happy Tummy Team: Sarah, David, Amber, Kai, Maria, and Jason. Each introduces themself to your children by sharing their tummy troubles, the symptoms they experienced, and how they found relief. Their stories help kids better understand different types of tummy issues and how they can feel better. They share what they have learned so every child can have a healthier tummy and body.

View Module 2 – The Digestive System
This Module describes the Digestive System, commonly referred to as the Gut. It is intended to help children understand the structure of the human digestive system, where food goes after it is eaten, and the relationship between the Digestive System and other bodily functions.

View Module 3 – The Good Guys in Your Digestive System
This Module identifies and introduces the enzymes, secretions, and a few of the trillions of microorganisms (“good bacteria”) living in the Digestive System that support food processing, Digestive System maintenance, and immune system support. Children will also learn how certain foods help promote a healthy tummy by supporting these “Good Guys” and the White Blood Cells.

View Module 4 – The Bad Guys In Your Digestive System
This Module identifies and introduces several microorganisms and harmful substances that can enter the Digestive System, disrupt food processing, and affect digestive health. These invaders can also affect other bodily systems and functions, weakening the White Blood Cells responsible for providing immunity (the “Bad Guys”).

View Module 5 – The Three Food Groups
This Module identifies and introduces the “Three Food Groups” (proteins, carbohydrates, and fats), each playing a crucial role in providing the necessary nutrients for a Happy Tummy and a healthy body. Additionally, it explains how these foods are broken down by the Good Guys in the Digestive System, making the valuable nutrients available to other organs in the body.

View Module 6 – The Leaky Gut
This Module introduces what is called “Leaky Gut,” a condition in which spaces are formed in the lining of the tummy, allowing Bad Guys, undigested food particles, and other things to pass into the blood, triggering tummy pain, inflammation, and sickness.

View Module 7 – Stress and Leaky Gut
This Module introduces the relationship between experiencing “Stress” and “Leaky Gut.”

View Module 8 – Antibiotics and Leaky Gut
This Module introduces the relationship between exposure to Antibiotics and “Leaky Gut.” You will learn that Antibiotics, although they kill the Bad Guys, also kill the Good Guys. So, we must be careful to take Antibiotics only when we are sick and need them, and avoid eating foods containing Antibiotics, such as Feed Lot animals and Farmed Fish.

View Module 9 – The Bad Guys and Leaky Gut
This Module introduces the relationship between exposure to the Bad Guys and Leaky Gut. You will learn about the chemical Glyphosate, found in many foods, and how it interacts with the protein Zonulin to cause Leaky Gut.

View Module 10 – The White Cell Warriors
This Module introduces the “White Blood Cells” in our immune system. These cells help keep us from getting sick by fighting off the Bad Guys that enter our body, which is why we call them the “White Cell Warriors.” It is important to keep them healthy and strong and avoid weakening them.

View Module 11 – Leaky Gut and Undigested Food Particles
This Module introduces problems caused by Leaky Gut – specifically, how large, undigested food pieces can pass through gaps in the gut lining, and that, once these pieces enter the blood, the White Cell Warriors attempt to destroy them, causing inflammation.

View Module 12 – Essential Nutrients
This Module introduces Essential Nutrients necessary to support our bodies and maintain our health.

View Module 13 – Healthy Food Choices
This Module introduces both healthy foods, “Happy Tummy Foods,” and unhealthy foods, “Unhappy Tummy Foods”.

View Module 14 – Dealing With Stress
This Module introduces simple exercises that can relieve stress and can help prevent or relieve tummy pain and other health conditions.

View Module 15 – A Special Tummy Test
This Module introduces a special Tummy Test ("Poop Test") that helps functional medicine doctors identify the Good Guys and Bad Guys in living in the tummy and what may be causing tummy pain or other health issues.
